Open 10:30–5:00, Tuesday – Saturday
Join Community Historian, Brendan Matthews and step back in time to reflect on the lives and people of 20th Century Drogheda
In the final days of 2023, in a period of reflection on life over the years and of community, join Brendan Matthews, where he shares a number oral history recorded extracts, played on an analogue cassette recorder, along with paper copies of material, like invoices, and an illustrated presentation, to step back in time, and garner a greater understanding and awareness of our older citizens world & communities they once lived in.
Enjoy a glimpse into the lives and tales of people, in what now may feel like a different world, a previous time, an older Drogheda, Drogheda of the 20th century, and a world in which, despite much hardship and poverty, a thriving vernacular culture also existed, of wicked humour & social recreation.
Tea, coffee and a warm welcome, served on arrival.
The session is presented in the Upper Gallery, and within the exhibition, Cultural Reflections by the Water’s Edge, which continues until Saturday 27th January, 2024
