Artist-Teacher-Researcher/ Winter Session 2024

Thursday 4th January 8.30am-1.15pm

 

Highlanes Gallery, the municipal art gallery for Drogheda and the North East is situated in the heart of the Boyne Valley, and close to Brú na Bóinne and Newgrange, which has some of the finest examples of megalithic art in Western Europe.

 

Join us for an in-depth morning with a visit to the site at Newgrange, led by Muiris O Suilléabháin and Clare Tuffy, followed by an artist’s talk and workshop at Highlanes Gallery, with exhibiting artist (and Principal of the RHA School), Colin Martin, and a gallery talk focussing on a Collection focused exhibition – Cultural Reflections on the River’s Edge – with the exhibition’s co-curator, Community Historian, Brendan Matthews, considering your local museum and gallery as a resource.

 

Thursday 4th January

8.30am – Meet, Gates of Highlanes Gallery, Bus to Newgrange (wrap up!)

9:00am – Arrive at Newgrange Monument for special tour with Clare Tuffy & archaeologist, Muiris O Suilléabháin.

10:00am – Return to Highlanes Gallery

10:30am – Refreshments – Warm up with tea, coffee and breakfast delights in the Lower Gallery.

11: 00am – Artist, Colin Martin , discusses his painting practice ahead of his forthcoming solo exhibition Empathy Lab, and his working life as an artist and his ATR journey, as a former lecturer in NCAD and Principal of the Royal Hibernian Academy School.

Followed by a painting workshop with Colin.

12:15pm – Community Historian, Brendan Matthews introduces you to key works in the exhibition Cultural Reflections on the River’s Edge, and considering your local museum and gallery as a resource.

12:45pm – Group Discussion with Colin Martin, Brendan Matthews, and Aoife Ruane, Curator/Director, Highlanes Gallery.

1:15pm – Session Ends

 

The morning session is charged at €25, with bus, materials and morning refreshments included.
