James Moonan: Once Upon a Page
17 January – 14 February 2026
Emerging artist James Moonan presents his first solo exhibition, featuring award-winning recent work alongside pieces made throughout his childhood. This exhibition celebrates his artistic journey and the imaginative world of wonder that captures youth and childhood.
Artists Statement
My art is a reflection of how I see and experience the world. Growing up with autism, I found inspiration in picture books and animations. They were a doorway into understanding a busy world full of words and noise. Their colourful characters and magical landscapes, allowed me to interpret the stories in my own way, leaving the confusion of language aside.
In my work now, I continue to draw from that early fascination. I present visual stories that capture the joy of childhood curiosity. This exhibition brings together my newest artwork alongside pieces I created throughout my life.
Art has always been a way for me to communicate and connect with a world that can be more difficult to understand for people with autism. I hope viewers feel a sense of discovery and imagination in my work.
