Marking the first centenary of the Friends of the National Collections of Ireland, Highlanes Gallery’s Artist – Teacher – Researcher Curatorial Panel present an exhibition selected from the works that the FNCI have gifted the gallery’s collection since its inception in 1946, along with the work of invited contemporary artists. The Friends of the National Collections of Ireland were founded in 1924 by the painter Sarah Purser and a group of friends for the purpose of acquiring works of art and objects of historical interest and donating them to national and regional art galleries and museums throughout Ireland for the education and enjoyment of the public.

 

Artists whose work has been gifted by the FNCI to Highlanes Gallery include Jerome Connor, Rene Brault, Sylvia Cooke-Collis, Beatrice Glenavy, Jack Hanlon, Evie Hone, Mainie Jellet, Dany Lartigue, William Leech, Ferenc Martyn, William Mulready, Andrew O’ Connor, Bea Orpen, Mervyn Peake, Nano Reid.
