POETRY IS FUN, POETRY IS ADVENTURE A Highlanes Summer Sundays Series
Setting out to re-affirm that poetry is exciting and playful, Drogheda poet Roger Hudson and his friends Brian Quinn and Nuala Leonard will present three ‘entertainments’ on Sundays over the summer, beginning this Sunday at 2pm.
Attendance is free and tea, coffee and biscuits will be served at this convivial afternoon event. Bring a friend, or share others’ company.
‘Round the World and through the ages – Sunday 9th July at 2pm Demonstrating how strong a creative force poetry has been for the whole human race, wherever they have manifested, the performer/poets share with you a dazzling selection of poetry from Ancient China and the African jungle to modern Poland, and from Celtic pre-history to native America.
I wanna break free – Sunday 23rd July at 2pm Every so often rules surrounding poetry harden and it may get stereotyped – iambic pentameters, sonnets, 40 line lyric poems, epics – or restrictions on subject matter clamp down. A new generation of poets decided to break these moulds and rebel, inventing new forms, exploring different subjects. In recent times, the Beat Generation and the Modernist poets stand out, but there were many before them. The performer poets share some with you.
Playing with words – Sunday 13th August at 2pm Words can be tools for trickery or toys for playing and poets have often been tempted by both possibilities. On this Sunday, the performer/poets share in the fun with E.E. Cummings, Sylvia Plath, Hilaire Beloc, André Breton, Lewis Carroll, Emily Dickinson and others.
