Homecoming Event at Highlanes Gallery and Knowth
Saturday 17th June, 2023
From Highlanes Gallery to Knowth, join us for an evening centre on the Boyne Valley, and its influence on the artist Jo Baer
Jo Baer’s work has returned to Ireland and to the region of its tumultuous influence marking a seismic change in this celebrated artists work.
The series (2009-2013) The Land of the Giants, was inspired by an earlier period for the artist (1975-1984) living in Co. Louth, and as the chatelaine of Smarmore Castle; where she immersed herself in the rural life; and which later sparked a long period of artistic research, artwork, and indeed writing, which continues today for the artist.
Join us for an evening that begins at the gallery, where you can view the exhibition, before we depart for Knowth (Brú na Bóinne), where Muiris O’Suilleabháin brings us on a tour of the site, exploring the art at Knowth, followed by a view of their exhibition centre, where following some light refreshments direct from the Boyne Valley producers, a panel discussion will take place with contributions from guest curator and scholar, Janine Armin, Caoimhín MacGiolla Léith critic, curator & Senior Lecturer in Modern Irish (UCD) , Gabriel Cooney (Emeritus Professor of Celtic of Archaeology, UCD), and Paddy Dillon, Poet.
