The Boyne Viaduct, Drogheda

Laurence Fagan, who was congenitally deaf, was educated at the Claremont Institute, Dublin and lived in Trinity Street, Drogheda. He supported himself by making drawings of local scenes and copies of engravings and etchings, a flourishing trade in the 1860s. His study of the Boyne Viaduct boasts precise perspective in terms of scale of the arches, accented by the large vessels sweeping up the river in full sail and the train crossing the bridge, pulling three large carriages. This is Drogheda as a bustling, commercially successful town.
