Flower Painting (Pansies)

Grace Henry , 1912
The play of light on the botanically correct Pansies, painted in soft tones of yellows, instills the work with a unique calmness. There is a reference to Degas in the cropped mahogany table in the foreground, while the blue-and-white bowl suggests the Japanese influence in French painting in the early nineteenth century.
