Open 10:30–5:00, Tuesday – Saturday
Fast Day was first exhibited at the IELA in 1950. The imagery used is borrowed from early manuscripts and stone-carvings created by Irish monks in the seventh to tenth centuries. Dillon uses animal motifs for the marginal decoration, while the figures seated around the table his close circle of artistic friends, George Campbell, Arthur Armstrong, James McIntyre and the artist himself are represented as Celtic monks, but rendered with a broad, modern, painterly treatment.
