Cottage along the Boyne

Painted on tonal paper, which is allowed to shine through in many areas the traditional farmhouse is depicted from an elevated viewpoint. While highlights are added to the gable end, the front facade of the house and to the swans on the water. The work is humorous and slightly naive: notice the out-of-perspective horse in the field behind, and the cat at the side of the house. In her lightness of touch in paint handling and the joyful, descriptive lines, Martin-Banchet’s work hints at the French artist, Marie Laurencin.
