View of Drogheda

Thomas Markey

b. 1885 - d. 1967
Oil on canvas

The View of Drogheda was copied from Van der Hagen's painting for Beaulieu House and therefore, while it resembles Ricciardelli's, Markey retained the old two-arched bridge that existed when Van der Hagen painting the scene, c.1718

An oil landscape painting showing the town of Drogheda sitting along the river Boyne during 18th century. In the left middle-ground two women can be seen wearing large period dresses. In the middle foreground a man can be seen standing with his left arm raised talking to a group of people, including a woman with a young child.
