The Golden Cage

Jack Hanlon

b. 1913 - d. 1968
Oil on canvas

Jack Hanlon studied art with Mainie Jellett and Andre Lhote and was thus influenced by Cubism, but he developed a personal, less formulaic style- not dissimilar to Lhote- with an emphasis on light and colour, as is evident in 'The Golden Cage'.

An oil painting depicting two brightly coloured birds in a golden cage. In the immediate foreground a red bird stands on the bottom of the cage. In the middle background a blue bird with a multicoloured tail stands on the perch in the cage.
