Affectionate Couple

Affectionate Couple not only demonstrates Beatrice Glenavy’s ability to draw, but to draw in pastel. The delicacy of the lady – her pale, intense expression and flame-coloured hair – evokes the work of the pre-Raphaelites, Edward Burne Jones, or Dante Gabriel Rossetti’s paintings of his wife, Lizzie Siddon, or later, Jane Morris, as his model. In Glenavy’s work, the couple embraces in the privacy of a wooded glade, absorbed in their own intimacy.
