Parent and Toddler Tuesday Morning Workshop

Tuesday 13th October 10.30am

A Gallery-based workshop led by artist Caoimhe O’Dwyer

Join artist Caoimhe O’Dwyer for a playful and creative clay workshop designed especially for parents and toddlers. Together, you’ll explore the fabulous art by the finalists of the Young Creatives Art Competition Exhibition in the Upper Gallery. This is a very special opportunity for early years to create their own art inspired by the art of other children.

After a short, family-friendly tour of the exhibition, Caoimhe will invite children and their parents to get hands-on with soft, squishy, air-drying clay, inspired by this year’s theme, “Me, My Place, Our World.” Children will be encouraged to squish, roll, pinch, press and shape the clay as they create their own self-portraits and sculptures of favourite objects and places that tell us a little bit about who they are and the world around them.

Inspired by ideas and themes from the exhibition, this playful, sensory activity gives young children the freedom to explore, experiment and express themselves through making. Art can be a wonderful way for children to share their ideas, feelings and perspectives, even before they have the words and sentences to express them.

Working with clay also supports early-years development, helping to strengthen fine-motor skills while encouraging curiosity, imagination, creativity and confidence. Most of all, it is an opportunity for children to have fun, get messy and make something that is uniquely theirs.

This gentle, hands-on session is a lovely first step into the world of art for little ones, encouraging curiosity, imagination, and shared creativity between parent and child in the welcoming setting of the Highlanes Gallery.
