Reflection of Thought – Glass Painting with Artist Tracey McVerry

Friday, December 30, 2022

Using the medium of glass and glass paints, artist Tracey McVerry will ask adult participants to reflect on our current exhibition, The Tyranny of Ambition, pick out a painting that best resonates and intrigues, before using colour, light, reflection and transparency to create their own unique and personal response.

Each participant will receive a 15cm x 15cm panel of glass, pre-fused to include a hanging point. Experimenting with line, mark making and colour, each participant will create a permanent reflection on their experience of the exhibition and of the materials they explored.

Workshop takes place over 2 hours, 12pm to 2pm. Booking is charged at €10, materials included.

About

Nestled in the rolling hills of South Armagh in the townland of Ballintemple, professional artist Tracey Mc Verry creates sculptural glass art from White Rock Glass Studio, situated at her 200 year old family farm.

Tracey specialised in Fine Art Sculpture with a MFA in 2002 at the University of Ulster. She has been working within the field of sculpture and glass since 2003 after she trained with artisan brothers, Gianni and Massimo Bracciai in Sienna, Italy, at Vitrate Artiste Toscana.

Here she assisted in the creation of large scale ecclesiastical glass installations sited in places of worship across the United States. This is where the seeds were sown for her passion for glass as a medium of transferring the ethereal qualities of glass into her sculptural artworks.

Tracey is a professional artist of 20 years. Her work focuses on fused and cast glass in a sculptural context, incorporating it into her public art practice and small scale sculptural craft. Tracey’s work is heavily inspired by her natural and personal surroundings of South Armagh and the unique geological aspects of the Ring of Gullion. Her work has a personal narrative attached to people and place of her native homestead and homeland. She incorporates carefully selected objects and artefacts from her ‘homeland’ into her glass work creating an assembly of found and made objects, each with a personal story. Tracey also works extensively as an arts facilitator throughout Ireland

Tracey’s art work, which incorporates large scale public sculpture, private commissions and glass craft sculpture can be found across the island of Ireland in external and internal public spaces and private collections.
