Connect, make, look, learn, discuss and deepen your professional development in this half day session.

 

The morning begins with a Walking Tour of Drogheda tracing the life of an iconic artist, then you participate in an Artist’s Workshop working with oil paints, followed by an informal lunch in the courtyard, weather permitting; the session ending with a Peer Curatorial group discussion joined by an exhibiting artist, and exhibiting poet & community activist, and art historian and writer.

 

Spend a half day connecting. This intense and dynamic session series will stimulate and invigorate you, as you evolve through the multiple aspects of your professional life as an Artist-Teacher-Researcher.

 

Highlanes Gallery, the municipal art gallery for Drogheda and the North East is situated in the heart of the Boyne Valley, rich in historic and contemporary heritage and art.

 

Join us for an in-depth morning, beginning in the gallery at a key work by 20th century maverick artist, Nano Reid where community historian Brendan Matthews brings you on a walking tour of her hometown, Drogheda, exploring her life, and the influence of place on her work. On returning to the gallery, we with a practical workshop, working in oil on canvas, led by exhibiting artist Francis Matthews, followed by a gallery talk led by the 6 Artist Teacher Researchers – Eileen Brennan, Kieran Gallagher, Bairbre Geraghty, Veronica Lavin, Ciarán Power and Roisin O’Sullivan, who have curated Embracing Vision: Celebrating 100 Years of the Friends of the National Collections of Ireland, and joined by exhibiting artists Francis Matthews and and exhibiting poet and community activist, Sarah Clancy.

  • 9.15am – 10.50/11am Starting at Nano Reid’s Légende, community historian, Brendan Matthews brings you on a fascinating tour of Nano’s hometown Drogheda, sharing insight into her life and practice.
  • 11am Return to the gallery for coffee & buns
  • 11.30am – 1.30pm Gallery-based practical workshop led by artist Francis Matthews
  • 1.00pm – Informal lunch (sandwiches, fruit and water)
  • 2.00pm Gallery talk in the Embracing Vision: Celebrating 100 Years exhibition led by the curators (each Artist-Teacher-Researchers) and with exhibiting artist Francis Matthews, exhibiting poet, Sarah Clancy, and art historian and author, Dr Yvonne Scott.
