Join artist Raphael Hynes as he presents a unique look into the changing art styles and roles that took place over the late 18th century right up to the mid 20th.
The lecture series will take place in-person at the gallery at 7.30pm each Wednesday for 50 minutes with refreshments. Tickets cost €5 per lecture or just €20 for all five.

Talk 1: Neo-Classical Art, Romantic Art and Realist Art, October 19th, 7.30pm
This lecture explores how artists responded to the Enlightenment, which brought about huge political and social change.
Talk 2: Manet and the Impressionists, October 26h, 7.30pm
In this lecture Raphael discusses when Modern life becomes the subject for the artist.
Talk 3: The Post-Impressionists, November 2nd, 7.30pm
This lecture explores when the artist no longer feels obliged to depict a “realistic” representation of the world but instead creates a personal vision in which colour and brush work are used as a means of expression.
Talk 4: Matisse, Fauvism and Expressionism, November 9th, 7.30pm
In this lecture Raphael discusses when the flat surface of the painting becomes all important as the artist turns away from depicting the illusion of three dimensional space and concentrates instead on the expression of emotions.
Talk 5: Picasso, Cubism and the road to Abstraction, November 16th, 7.30pm
This lecture explores when the painting becomes its own reality.
