Afternoon Traditional Music Session – Jennifer Leahy & Gormlaith Maynes

Join us for an informal session of traditional irish music with Gormlaith Maynes on concertina and Jennifer Leahy on harp ahead of an international tour later this spring.

 

Jennifer and Gormlaith formed an enchanting musical duo, combining the harmonious sounds of harp, concertina, and vocals. This collaboration blossomed in early 2022, featuring a repertoire that spans traditional Irish tunes and newly composed pieces.

 

Their skillful arrangements and harmonies captivate audiences, offering a perfectly balanced fusion of dynamics and instrumentation.

 

Embarking on the global stage in February/March, this duo is set to headline the 24th Guinness Celtic Springs Tour, a three-week journey across Austria. Their eagerly awaited music video has just been unveiled and can be enjoyed on www.maynestage.ie.

 

About:

Jennifer Leahy is an award winning harpist from from Kells Co. Meath. She draws inspiration from a rich tapestry of musical genres, seamlessly weaving together elements of traditional, classical, and South American music. Jennifer has shared her diverse musical talents on stages across Europe and Australia, captivating audiences with her unique blend of influences.

 

Currently, Jennifer serves as the musical director and tutor at Mullingar Harp School, where she imparts her expertise and passion for the harp to aspiring musicians. Her commitment to musical education and her ability to traverse various genres make her an identifiable figure in the vibrant world of harp performance.

 

Gormlaith Maynes, hailing from Drogheda, is an accomplished concertina player deeply passionate about music. She earned her M.A. in Traditional Irish Music Performance from UL, demonstrating her dedication to the craft. Gormlaith served as the Co-ordinator for Celtic & Traditional Music at Holland College in Canada and played a pivotal role as a founding member of the band Inn Echo. Their inaugural album hit the shelves in 2019, followed by an EP in 2020.

 

In addition to her musical pursuits, Gormlaith successfully completed a Post Grad Diploma in Cultural Event Management in 2022. Driven by her unwavering love for music, she founded MayneStage in the same year, concentrating on music performance.

 

Notably, Gormlaith is the organiser of Boyne TradFest, scheduled to unfold from September 20th to 22nd, 2024 across numerous venues in Drogheda. Her multifaceted journey reflects a remarkable blend of academic achievements, artistic contributions, and entrepreneurial spirit.
