Highlanes Gallery is open to the public, please know that we have taken into account all guidance and safety measures for our staff and for you, so as to ensure an enjoyable and informative visit.

Admission to Highlanes Gallery is free, but if you would like to book a group in advance it can be made directly through the following means;

Getting There

From Train Station
  • Turn right from train station and walk towards town for approx. 5 minutes
  • Pass a cafe called Bia and turn right into courtyard, take steps at rear of courtyard
  • At bottom of steps torn left and follow river to St Mary's Bridge
  • Turn right over bridge and walk straight ahead across the road and up a small hill
  • You will come to a crossroads where you turn right onto Laurence Street
  • We are approx. 100 yards up on the right hand side and through the iron gates
From Bus Station
  • Exit bus station and follow road between McDonalds and the Bus Station called the Haymarket
  • At t-junction take the right turn and follow road to the end and take left at next t-junction
  • You will come to a crossroads where you turn right onto Laurence Street
  • We are approx. 100 yards up on the right hand side and through the iron gates 
Getting to Drogheda by Car
  • From the north: take the M1 south to Drogheda and exit at the N52 / Drogheda off-ramp (immediately before the M1 Boyne bridge) and follow the signs for town centre;
  • From the south: take the M1 north to Drogheda and exit at the N52 / Drogheda off-ramp (immediately after the M1 Boyne bridge) and follow the signs for town centre;
  • From the west: take the N52 via Navan / Slane, cross over the M1 (with the M1 Boyne bridge to the south) and follow the signs for town centre;
Once in the town
  • Turn on to West Street (adjacent to the Bridge of Peace)
  • At the end of West street go straight through the junction up St Laurence Street and the gallery is at the top of the hill on the right - slightly offset from the street
  • Note there is no parking within the gallery complex 

Public Transport

Rail
Drogheda is serviced by both Intercity (Dublin/ Belfast) and Suburban trains (Dublin/Drogheda/ Dundalk) with trains departingapproximately every half hour from 07:30 - 23:20 daily. Journey times vary from Dublin toDrogheda depending on the service type; theIntercity 'Enterprise'service is the shortest option. Drogheda McBride station is a 20 minute walkfrom the gallery. Bus
Drogheda is serviced by both Intercity (Dublin/Dundalk/ Belfast) and Suburban bus services (Dublin/ Drogheda/ Dundalk),in addition to other national routes, with busses departing from 07:15 - 00:00daily. Journey times vary from Dublin to Drogheda depending on service type - check prior todeparture. The Bus Éireann station is less than a 10 minute walk from the gallery. Taxi
Set down and pick up near the main Courtyard and Café entrances, both of which are ats treet-level with lifts to other Levels. Drogheda has several taxi cabs, many of which are equipped to carry disabled persons.

Car Parking

There are several parking options in Drogheda – both on street parking and multi-story parking, most optionsinvolvement the payment of a fee. We have indicated the approximatedistance from the parking area to Highlanes Gallery in metres.

  • Laurence Street Shopping Centre, opposite the gallery (entrance to car park from William Street and St. Peter Street (20 M) 450 spaces
  • Palace Street Surface Car Park, Palace Street (50 M)
  • Drogheda Town Centre Car Park, Dyer Street (100 M)
  • Haymarket Multi-Story Car Park, Haymarket Bridge/Dyer Street (300 M)
  • Scotch Hall Centre, Scotch Hall, Dublin Road (400 M)
  • Street Parking for Disabled Persons - designatedparking bays are located opposite the Highlanes Gallery on LaurenceStreet, which give level access to the gallery entrances.

Accessibility

Wheelchair Users

All public areas of the building are fully accesible by wheelchair, please bear in mind that when converting a building of the age of the former Friary Church has been logistically challenging. We are happy that universal accessibility has been largely achieved, though certain areas, require attention or careful navigation.

Our floor staff can assist gallery users with special needs, should they request. Courtesy manual wheelchairs are available on request at the main reception.

House Rules

Please note the following in the gallery:

  • No food or drink
Cloakroom

Our cloakroom facility is now open again for visitors wishing to leave coats, jackets, and small carriers such as handbags, briefcases, etc.

Toilets & Baby change

Male, female, accessible toilets and baby change facilities are located on the Church level of exhibition, behind altar area, accessible by lift and stairs.

First Aid service

In case of accident or emergency, contact an invigilator immediately.

Food & Drink

The Five Good Things Café has waiter service, as well as high chairs for infants. Open Hours and days: Monday to Saturday from 9am to 4pm, Sunday at 10am to 4pm.

Art valuation

The Highlanes Gallery is unable to give valuations of works of art - a reputable dealer or auction house should be able to help.

Gallery Questions

What is the best way to travel to Highlanes Gallery?

On foot, or by using the car park facilities (on street) or at Laurence Shopping Centre.
If using public transport, please keep in mind that capacity is reduced.

Do I need to wear a face mask?

With restrictions eased, there will be no enforced rule and each individual visitor may choose to wear a mask while visiting Highlanes Gallery.

Can I visit as a group?

Yes you can! Highlanes Gallery welcomes visiting groups of all sizes. For groups larger than 8 (Maximum 30 people) we would request booking in advance so we can facilitate touring options and accommodate for any other groups on the day.
