Glenveagh, Co. Donegal

Humbert Craig’s oil painting of Glenveagh, Co. Donegal, is a typical Craig bogscape, conveying atmospherically the changing light on a scene of a disappearing life and time. The light in the sky percolates through the ominous, encroaching rain clouds, highlighting the distant mountains and casting a pall over the foreground. On closer inspection, one can discern a couple working among the turfstacks, filling the creels on the donkeys with turf, ready for the journey home.
