Seapoint Strand – Reading with Co. Louth-Swiss Author Gabrielle Alioth

Gabrielle Alioth: Seapoint Strand

The world below water must be filled with a greenish light. In the past, fishermen sometimes found apple blossom in their nets or a golden cup. What fills the space in our mind when we forget the past?

Friday 24th July at 11.30am

Swiss writer Gabrielle Alioth has been living in Ireland for nearly 40 years, in the North East, just along the County Louth coast, outside of Drogheda. Every day early in the morning she walks her dog at the nearby beach called Seapoint. The author presents her prose with visuals in this intruiging session.

What she has encountered, has seen and conceives there, features in this book in 52 pictures and 12 prose texts in German and English.

The photographs by the author, following the cycle of the year, range from close-ups of details like starfish and traces on the strand to impressive water- and cloudscapes, the play of sunlight and to nearly abstract images of the morning dawn. – The strand is reality as well as myth.

In the German and English texts, the present and past interweave. Characters from Irish mythology emerge from the strand and reflect the biography of the author.

Presented during Ceiliúradh: Treasures of the Boyne Valley, join us for a morning reading by the author.
