Open 10:30–5:00, Tuesday – Saturday
To mark World Alzheimer’s Month, which is a global campaign to raise awareness about Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, we are pleased to host a talk by Drogheda writer, Dawn Staudt.
Dawn’s book, From the Heart of a Caregiver (2020), won glowing praises from the Drogheda Branch of Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland, at Tredagh Lodge: “… a beautiful book of poetry written by Dawn while caring for her dear mother-in-law on her journey with dementia. It portrays Dawn’s love, joy, stress, heartbreak, pain, sorrow, understanding and acceptance. It will make you cry and smile and gain comfort that you are not alone on the journey…It will be a great source of inspiration to carers on the journey with their loved one with dementia.”
At this lunch time event, Dawn will share her poems that highlight down-to-earth insights for coping with what is obviously a very important and – at times – a very all-consuming and challenging role of caring for one with dementia. It is hoped that this talk will be useful and uplifting to all carers.
Topics such as adopting a spirit of service, staying strong, dealing with the decline that comes with dementia, as well as perspectives on death and the role of hospice will be touched upon. It is hoped that one or two friends with either personal and professional experience with Alzheimer’s will also be able to participate in the programme, but this is not confirmed at this time.
Come alone or bring a friend or family member.
