Friday 3rd January 9.00am-2.15pm

Highlanes Gallery, the municipal art gallery for Drogheda and the North East is situated in the heart of the Boyne Valley, and close to Brú na Bóinne and Newgrange, which has some of the finest examples of megalithic art in Western Europe.

Join us for an in-depth morning with a visit to the site at Newgrange, led by Muiris O Suilléabháin and Clare Tuffy, followed by an artist’s talk and workshop back at Highlanes Gallery, with exhibiting artist (and former ATR), Anita Groener, and a gallery talk focussing on a Collection focused exhibition – AMPLIFY-Young People Curate – with a number of exhibition’s co-curators, people from our Young Persons Panel (aged 18-30) who bring you closer to both the process they engaged with and the artworks (contemporary and historic) by artists, many of whom are living in Drogheda and the North East.

Anita will begin the workshop by showing a short film that sge made a few years ago with a local community in Dun Laoghaire.

She will then detail how to make stop-motion animation.

Before the day, we ask you to do two things in preparation:

1) Download the free STOP MOTION STUDIO app on your phone – It works for both Apple and Android phones.

2) Considering the idea or theme of ‘home) you are invited to bring an object which symbolises or signifies a personal idea of home imbued with memories.

For the session itself, Anita poses the question ‘How do you feel about and think through ideas of ‘home’? What constitutes ‘home’ for you? Each participant’s encounter with ‘home’ is unique; what form does your experience take?’

This workshop will also involve drawing, as you will use the recently downloaded app to record what you draw. At the end of the session, each participant will have their own short animated story on their phone to take home.

1:15pm -short break for a sandwich (supplied) ahead of the final session.

1:30pm – 2.15pm – Meet the AMPLIFY – Young Curators to view the exhibition they curated from the Drogheda Municipal Art Collection, with four invited artists and hear about their journey and the exhibited artwork.
