Presented to the Corporation of Drogheda by Francis Joseph Biggar MRIAI, 1925, to be hung in the Mayoralty Rooms, Mayoralty House, transferred to the collection, 1953

This a view of Slane Castle, when seen along with 'Drogheda from the Railway Station, 1849' (DMAC 0030) are said to have been originally panels in the saloon of one of the Drogheda paddle steamers, possibly the 'Faugh-a-Ballagh', built 1844 and broken up in 1876.

These remarkable paintings, on slate, were purchased by Joseph Francis Bigger, MRIAI, of Belfast at the 1920 sale of the collection of Col. George Hamilton Johnston at Kilmore Abbey, County Armagh, ‘...to prevent their passing into allien hands or being taken out of our country altogether’.
