Travelling Women’ c. 1957 (Coll: Ulster Museum) exemplifies his technique, the swirling mist here encloses the figures of traveling women, in their donkey and cart, a flash of red among all the earth colours and grey blues. Travelling people, gypsies or tinkers was a subject which fascinated many artists, including Yeats, le Brocquy and Hone.
