 |
Oil on Panel Dimensions: 86 x 76.8 cm Provenance: National Gallery of Ireland (NGI 956), Purchased London, Knodler and Co., 1932.
Orpen regularly returned to Dublin to teach at the Dublin Metropolitan Art School, during this time, he would take a house between Howth and Sutton on the northside of Dublin. He regularly would paint in the area, and this work from the collection of the National Gallery of Ireland is a prime example of Orpen's period of painting in Ireland before the Great War and the 1916 Rising, which was to change his relationship with the land of his birth.
