Father Jack Hanlon studied painting in Belgium, Spain and in Paris under André Lhote, he was ordained priest  at Saint Patrick’s College, Maynooth in 1939. He won several prizes, including an Olympic bronze medal for a painting of yachts on the River Boyne. He worked mainly in pastel-coloured watercolours, still life's or anecdotes of Irish life. He was curate in Churchtown, County Dublin when he died in 1968.
