On Thursday, April 5th 2018, Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, announced that 370 heritage projects across Ireland were to be awarded funding under the Built Heritage Investment Scheme 2018.

 The scheme will provide a €2 million euro investment for the repair and conservation of historic structures, both in private and public ownership, and for the communities who have a great sense of pride. For Louth, €125,000 of the Investment will be allocated to support local heritage projects.

Such beneficiaries will include; Whiterath Cottage in Dromiskin, Drumgoolin Thatch in Louth Village, Rethescar House in Dunleer, 74-76 West Street Drogheda, Beaulieu House Garden & Car Museum, and the Highlanes Gallery, thanks to Stephen Hodgins, Operational Manager of the gallery.

 With a funding of €10,000, repairs on the timber holding the marvellous stained glass windows can be made, maintained, and improve the appearance of the historic Franciscan building for years to come.

Aoife Ruane, Director of the Highlanes Gallery, had this to say;

“We are delighted with the news of the announcement of this valuable grant towards the very important, historic and precious site of the gallery, a former Franciscan Church, which dates back to early nineteenth century. Caring for, maintaining and having the opportunity to present the building at is best, now and into the future is critical for Highlanes Gallery, and within the rich and valued built heritage of the region.”

Highlanes Gallery is grateful for the ongoing financial support from Louth County Council, the Arts Council, and Patrons, Benefactors and Friends of the gallery.
