Highlanes Gallery’s Drogheda Municipal Art Collection is set to go on view in early October in Dublin's Royal Hibernian Academy. The Collection of art which earliest work dates to the middle of the 18th century, and now to contemporary times, was developed first in 1946 by artist Bea Orpen, her husband, businessman, Terry Trench, and the then Drogheda Corporation.

Over 30 works from the impressive collection have been selected including the work of artists Nano Reid, Mary Swanzy and Nora McGuinness, and more recent work by internationally renowned, and Co Louth-based artists, Jackie Nickerson, and Anthony Haughey. The exhibition, which will go on display in the Tony Ryan Gallery at the Royal Hibernian Academy, on Ely Place, Dublin 2, officially opens at 6pm on Wednesday 4th of October, which coincidentally is Highlanes Gallery’s 11th Birthday.

The Royal Hibernian Academy is one of Ireland's principal public arts organisations, it has a proud history of promoting the visual arts in Ireland since 1823, exhibiting contemporary Irish and international artists. Highlanes Gallery earlier this year was one of four museums in Ireland to receive the highest honour from the Heritage Council of Full Museum Accreditation. The exhibition continues at the RHA until Sunday November 19th. RHA and Highlanes Gallery’s respective directors, Patrick Murphy and Aoife Ruane have made the selection, and later this autumn, Highlanes will present a lecture outlining and exploring artists in the DMAC who were and are part of the prestigious academy.
